Scammed! Hansal Mehta`s Scam 2003 Is About The Fruit Seller-Turned-Scamster Abdul Karim Telgi

Web series based on real life stories have been gaining a lot of popularity. Especially after Scam 1992 instant success, consumption of more such content became a trend. And that`s why Hansal Mehta is back with another scam story. This time focusing on one of the infamous scamsters of India, Scam 2003 will throw light on the fruit seller-turned-counterfeit stamp paper fraud Abdul Karim Telgi.
On Tuesday, the makers announced Gagan Dev Riar, a versatile theatre artist as the face of the show. Sharing the teaser video, OTT platform SonyLiv said, “Starring Gagan Dev Riar as Telgi, Produced by Applause Entertainment in association with StudioNext, Scam 2003: The Telgi Story will be helmed by show runner Hansal Mehta and director Tushar Hiranandani. Casting by Mukesh Chhabra.”
“Telgi has been found,” said the video with uncanny similarity between Gagan and Telgi. The much-loved background score also made a part of the unveiling video, giving all the fans goodsebumps and headbangs.
Scam 2003 will narrate the life story of Abdul Karim Telgi, a fruit vendor born in Khanapur, Karnataka, and his journey of becoming the mastermind behind one of the most unbelievable scams. Spread across multiple states, the scam left the whole country in shock. Adapted from `Reporter Ki Diary`, a book authored by Sanjay Singh, the writer is believed to expose the scam back then.
Announcing the new scam story last year, Hansal expressed his excitement on helming another similar story inspired by real-life incidents. “I am delighted to be back with exploring yet another fascinating story following the immense success of Scam 1992. The new season of this franchise will focus on another riveting story that shook the country a few years ago – the stamp paper scam,” said the filmmaker.
The show is currently been shot and will stream soon on SonyLiv.
