Sunny Deol Announces Border 2 on 27th Anniversary of Border
Sunny Deol has officially announced the sequel to the iconic 1997 war drama, Border. The actor, who played Major Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri in the original film, will reprise his role in Border 2. This announcement has stirred excitement among fans and movie enthusiasts alike, who have been eagerly waiting for this sequel for nearly three decades.
Sunny Deol took to his Instagram account to share the thrilling news through an announcement video. In the video, Sunny`s voiceover resonates with the words, "27 saal pehle ek fauji ne vada kiya tha ki vo vapas aayega. Ussi vaade ko poora karne, Hindustan ki mitti ko apna salaam kehne, aa raha hai. (27 years ago, a soldier made a promise that he would return. To fulfil that promise and to salute the soil of India, he is returning)."
The announcement video concluded with the musical notes of Roopkumar Rathod and Sonu Nigam`s iconic track Sandese Aate Hain, evoking a sense of nostalgia and excitement. This classic song was a major highlight of the original film and remains a beloved track among fans.

Border 2 will be directed by Anurag Singh, known for his works like Dil Bole Hadippa!, Jatt & Juliet, Punjab 1984, and Kesari. The film is set to be produced by a powerhouse team including Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta. With such a talented team on board, Border 2 is poised to be a remarkable film.
An insider revealed, “Border 2 is targeting to hit the big screen on Friday, January 23, 2026, leading to the Republic Day holiday on Monday, January 26, 2026. Being a film celebrating the bravery of the Indian Armed Forces, the makers feel that there is no better date than Republic Day for the arrival of this Sunny Deol and Ayushmann Khurrana film.” This strategic release date aligns perfectly with the film`s patriotic theme, promising a grand tribute to the Indian Armed Forces.

Earlier, Sunny Deol shared on The Ranveer Show that he was meant to start Border 2 in 2015. However, the project was shelved due to the underperformance of his then-current release, which led to concerns among the producers. Now, after overcoming these hurdles, Border 2 is finally coming to fruition.
In addition to Border 2, Sunny Deol also has Lahore 1947 with Preity Zinta in his lineup. The shooting for this project is currently underway, further adding to the actor`s busy and exciting schedule.

What we know about Border 2
Contrary to typical sequels, Border 2 will not continue the original story but will unfold events that occurred on the same night as the Battle of Longewala depicted in Border. “Border 2 is not going to be a sequel, but instead, it is a story that took place the same night as Border`s events. The battle of Longewala was fought not just by our Indian army but also by the Navy and the Air Force, and the story of `Border 2 will recap events from the perspectives of all three wings of the Indian Armed Forces," a source disclosed. Background of Border
The original Border, released in 1997, was set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 and depicted the heroic events of the Battle of Longewala. The film boasted an ensemble cast including Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Sudesh Berry, and Puneet Issar.
