On Sunday, Tollywood`s power couple Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan welcomed twin boys through surrogacy. While their lives were filled with joy, we worry the happiness was interrupted by the Tamil Nadu government. The TN health minister M Subramanian has announced the surrogacy illegal and is planning to conduct a strict inquiry on the couple`s surrogacy plan.
As since January 2022, surrogacy in India has been banned and counted illegal. On Monday, during a press conference, the health minister was questioned about Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan`s move to opt for surrogacy while it is not considered legal in the country. Addressing the same, he said, “The surrogacy itself is subjected to a lot of debates. But, the law allows individuals to involve in surrogacy if they are above 21 years and below 36 years of age, with the approval of the family.”
The Lady Superstar and filmmaker tied the knot in June after dating for five long years. It seems the couple has been planning on opting for surrogacy even before getting married. On Sunday, Vignesh took to social media to announce the good news. His post read, “Nayan & Me have become Amma & Appa. We are blessed with twin baby boys."
Other Bollywood celebrities who welcomed their children through surrogacy are Karan Johar, Priyanka Chopra, Tusshar Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan, and more. In January 2022, India made surrogacy illegal unless a couple cannot bear children due to some legit medical reasons. The new parents are yet to give an official statement regarding the surrogacy.
