Veteran Malayalam Actor Mamukkoya Suffers Cardiac Arrest At A Football Ground, Passes Away At 76

Malayalam veteran actor Mamukkoya passed away on Wednesday afternoon after suffering a brutal cardiac arrest. The actor was 76 when he died. Mamukkoya was at a football tournament inauguration as the chief guest at Wandoor in Mallapuram district when he collapsed. He was rushed to a hospital in Wandoor. Later, the actor was shifted to a private hospital in Kozhikode.
It was said that the veteran actor was in stable condition and responding to treatment. However, Mamukkoya reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest followed by a hemorrhage and passed away on Wednesday afternoon.
As soon as the news broke out, Mamukkoya fans expressed their shock and condolences on social media. A Twitter user shared a clip from the actor`s movie and how his comic timing was rib-tickling.
Born in Kozhikode’s Kallayi, the veteran Malayalam actor was quite active in theatre. His passion for acting led him to his debut film Anyarude Bhoomi (1979). He was later seen doing supporting roles in many other films. However, it was Doore Doore Oru Koodu Koottam (1986) that rose to fame. The movie was headlined by Mohanlal.
He started to garner more popularity as he started working with director Sathyan Anthikad. It was his character Gafoor in the director`s Nadodikattu (1987) that Mamukkoya a household name.
He was also a part of several superhit Malayalam movies like Ramji Rao Speaking, Vadakku Nokkiyanthram, Thalayanamanthram, Sandesham, and His Highness Abdulla.
Apart from cinema, the veteran actor also had a keen interest in arts and literature. He voiced strong opinions on religion and politics. Mamukkoya`s spectacular acting won him the Kerala State Award in 2004 for his performances in Perumazhakkalam and Innathe Chintha Vishayam. The actor also played a pivotal role in Vikram`s Tamil film Cobra.
