Vidhu Vinod Chopra Shares a Major Update on Munna Bhai 3: “Will Definitely Be Made”
Director Vidhu Vinod Chopra and his team recently celebrated the 25-week anniversary of their 2023 film ‘12th Fail’. It was the first time in 23 years that a film had achieved this record. Following this, the director appeared for an interview where he shared lots of behind-the-scenes stories, from the making of the film to the box office success it gained. In this interview, Vidhu Vinod Chopra was asked about the making of the third film in the Munna Bhai franchise. Here’s what the director said.
When asked about an update on the much-anticipated next film in the Munna Bhai series, Chopra said, “We’re writing the script now. This film will definitely be made. I guarantee it. We’re also going to share an underlying message through the film. People haven’t forgotten the magic of ‘Jaadi Ki Jhappi’. So this time, we’re going to bring something new.”
The director shared one story about what happened after the film was a success. About 18 weeks after the film was released, it was still being shown in theatres. Vidhu Vinod Chopra called the theatres and asked them to stop screening the film because he thought the cinema house was doing so forcibly. To his surprise, he got a response that the film was still going strong, with audiences coming in even after so many weeks to watch the film.

The director shared that, after hearing this, he felt both happiness and amazement. He also shared the fact that, due to the rise of OTTs, films have not performed this well at theatres in the recent past. He brought our attention to the fact that even on its OTT release, the film performed quite well, as it has been on the trending list for quite a while.
In a very recent update, 12th Fail star Vikrant Massey announced that the blockbuster will be released in China on more than 20,000 screens. The actor may soon visit the country for promotions as well. Commenting on this achievement, Vidhu Vinod Chopra said, “The film will be screened in China this July. Apart from China, the film may also release in Japan and South Korea.”
