It’s heartbreaking to know that Vikram Gokhale, the veteran theatre and film actor passed away at the age of 77 due to a chronic condition. The actor who won our hearts with his illustrious filmography in Marathi and Hindi Cinema was admitted to a hospital in Pune for the last 15 days. Vikram Gokhale’s cremations will be performed at Balgandharva Sabhagruha, Pune on Thursday morning, where his friends and family will pay their last respects to the actor.

1. The son of the veteran actor Chandrakant Gokhale:
Vikram Gokhale is the son of the most-loved actor in Marathi Cinema Chandrakant Gokhale, who is best known for his illustrious work in both theatre and films. Chandrakant Gokhale, who was also a well-known singer was the son of Kamlabhai Gokhale - the first-ever female child actor in the Indian film industry.
2. Vikram Gokhale’s career in theatre:
The actor started his career by performing in the Marathi theatre plays in the 1960s. He worked hard and established himself as an outstanding actor in both Hindi and Marathi Cinema. He did not stop his theatre work and continued it till 2016. He retired from stage performances in 2016 due to his throat ailment.
3. Vikram Gokhale’s career in Bollywood:
Vikram’s passion for acting made him a famous actor in Marathi cinema at the age of 20. The actor made his debut in Bollywood with Amitabh Bachchan’s movie Parwana in 1971. Later on, he appeared in many famous films including Agneepath, Khuda Gawah, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and others. He was last seen in the film Nikamma which was released recently.

Vikram Gokhale was helped by Amitabh Bachchan in his early days in Bollywood as he was struggling a lot. The legend even wrote a letter to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Manohar Joshi, to help his friend, Vikram Gokhale, stating his financial crisis and struggle of not being able to find accommodation in Mumbai.
5. Won National Film Award:
Vikram Gokhale won the National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in the movie Anumati, released in 2013. He also worked as a director in the Marathi Film Aaghaat which was released in 2010.
6. Received Greatest Honour, Sangeet Natak Academy Award:
Vikram Gokhale was known for his contribution to Marathi theatre and received the Sangeet Natak Academy Award which is the greatest honor dedicated to theatre artists in the country.
7. Vikram Gokhale’s Acting Academy, Real Estate work, and Social works:
This might shock you that Vikram was active in the real estate business and owned a firm named Sujata Farms in Pune, where he had been living for the last few years. He was also running an Acting Academy in Pune before he fell ill.
