As she celebrates her birthday with her daughter Sappho and boyfriend Guy Hershberg, Kalki has been often named a `home breaker` or a `psycho`. It was back in November 2022 when Kalki Koechlin opened up about being stereotyped only for playing `psycho` characters or the `sidekick` in a movie. Despite her exceptional performances in critically acclaimed movies like Dev.D, Shanghai, Margarita With A Straw, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and more - the actress was often offered the scripts of playing the role of a `crazy best friend.`
While in conversation with actress Rytasha Rathore on her own BBC podcast, the episode revolved around shattering stereotypes and body positivity. The television actor, on Kalki, Presents My Indian Life, revealed that after she got a breakthrough with the daily soap Badho Bahu, Rathore was typecasted as the "fat girl."
After Rytasha spoke about being looked upon only from one perspective, Kalki shared her battle with being stereotyped in Bollywood. She said, “I can kind of relate to being the sidekick, the best friend who is funny but annoying or just somebody who is not very likable or a home-breaker or ready to mess up the plot. It has been frustrating.”
Further adding, the Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara actress said, "I remember a director once approached me for a role saying `you are going to love this role because it is about a psycho. You know she is like drinking and really messed up in the head.` So yes, I relate to being stereotyped."
Kalki Koechlin And Anurag Kashyap History
After tying the knot with filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, Kalki Koechlin was often in headlines as the "home-breaker" as the former divorced his first wife after he fell for the actress. Their relationship began in 2009 on the sets of his movie Dev.D, with which the actress made her Bollywood debut. However, the couple soon got divorced and now are on amicable terms.
