Korean films have always been a subtle inspiration for some Bollywood films. The films in this list were remade or inspired from South Korean films but still have that Desi touch to them. How many of these did you already know about?
1. Dhamaka (2021)
Inspired by the 2013 Korean film The Terror Live, Dhamaka revolves around Arjun Pathak, a disgraced news anchor, getting a call from a terrorist who threatens to blow up a bridge unless his demands are met. Arjun sees this as an opportunity to revive his career but finds himself caught in a moral dilemma when the terrorist’s attacks start happening. The film revolves around the intense negotiation and live broadcast that follow.2. Jazbaa (2015)
Inspired by the 2007 film Seven Days, Jazbaa is the story of Anuradha Verma, a prominent lawyer, who is forced to defend a convicted felon when her daughter is kidnapped. The kidnapper demands that she win the case in exchange for her daughter's life. The film follows her desperate attempts to uncover the truth behind the crime and save her daughter.3. Bharat (2019)
Inspired by the K-film Ode to My Father, Bharat’s journey mirrors the history of post-independence India. From his childhood during the Partition of India in 1947 to his adulthood, Bharat takes on various jobs, from working in a circus to an oil field in the Middle East, all while keeping a promise to his father to hold the family together.4. Inspired by the 2003 film Oldboy, Zinda follows Bala, a man who is mysteriously kidnapped and kept in solitary confinement for 14 years. After being suddenly released, he embarks on a quest for revenge and answers. Along the way, he uncovers shocking truths about the reason behind his imprisonment.5. Ugly Aur Pagli (2008)
Inspired by My Sassy Girl, which came out in 2001, Ugly Aur Pagli revolves around Kabir, a meek college student, and Kuhu, a wild and eccentric girl he meets. The plot follows their humorous and chaotic relationship as Kuhu makes Kabir follow her bizarre demands, creating a series of funny and heartwarming moments.
6. Rocky Handsome (2016)
Inspired by the 2010 film The Man from Nowhere, Rocky Handsome centres around Rocky, a reclusive pawnshop owner with a tragic past who embarks on a violent mission to rescue an abducted little girl who is the daughter of his neighbour. His search leads him into the heart of a dangerous organ trafficking syndicate.
