Ratha Saptami known as Magha Saptami

Ratha Saptami, alternatively known as Magha Saptami, is a Hindu festival occurring on the seventh day of the bright half of the Hindu month Magha.

It depicts the Sun-God Surya

Symbolically, it depicts the Sun-God Surya turning his chariot, drawn by seven horses, towards the northern hemisphere, in a north-eastern direction.

Birth of Surya

This festival also commemorates the birth of Surya and is thus recognized as Surya Jayanti.
