What is NOTA in Lok Sabha polls?

The "None of the Above" option allows voters to reject all the candidates contesting for elections, thus signifying the voter has not supported any party.

History of NOTA

NOTA was introduced on September 27, 2013, when the Supreme Court mandated the Election Commission to add the button to the ballot.

Why is NOTA important?

Though the option encourages the citizens to come ahead and vote, NOTA also compels the political parties to nominate a sound candidate who is trustworthy.

Does NOTA really matter?

Yes, it does. If a constituency observes maximum votes as NOTA, the next candidate with the second most number of votes is declared the winner.

How to vote for NOTA?

Choose the `None of the Above` button located at the bottom of the Indian electronic voting machines. Feel free to express your views and vote without fail.
