STSS is a rare but serious bacterial infection. It`s caused by group A Streptococcus (GAS) bacteria, also known as strep.

Reportedly, this disease has been spreading in Japan recently and is capable of killing a person within 48 hours of contraction.

These bacteria produce toxins that lead to widespread tissue damage and severe inflammation, resulting in rapid tissue necrosis, extreme pain, and shock.

The toxins disrupt the immune system, leading to severe symptoms that require immediate medical intervention to prevent death.

It`s important to note that STSS isn`t contagious in the way a cold or flu might be. You can`t catch it from someone else who has STSS.

However, the bacteria that cause STSS can be spread through contact with infected wounds or bodily fluids.

To prevent STSS, maintaining good hygiene, such as regular hand washing and prompt treatment of any skin injuries, is crucial.
