When you think of top composers and musicians of Bollywood in today's era, Amit Trivedi definitely tops the list. A singer, songwriter, and a music composer - Trivedi sure knows how to master at every note. He is a trendsetter, not just another talent whom Anurag Kashyap handed a break to. Some refer to him as the 'maestro of music' while some call him the heir of A R Rahman. And rightly so, because the musician has added the cinematic effect by reinventing it since 1990s.

Comparisons are bound to happen. Just like A R Rahman, Trivedi is also a man of few words and speaks through his tunes. While as a vocalist he may have garnered different opinions, but is universally loved and praised for his music composition. He never hesitates from experimenting. Be it using Indian classical sounds or adding western rock and electronica basis, the Fitoor composer has redefined the music industry as a whole.

Happy Birthday Amit Trivedi

Be it independent or Bollywood music, Trivedi has introduced many talents in the industry that are beyond the mundane honey-coated voice. His voice, a blend of bold, husky, and soulful is a reason for tracks like Pashmina, Lagan Laagi Re, Manjha, Namo Namo, Shaam and more to become instant favorites.

Suring his college times, Amit was a part of a fusion band called 'OM'. The band did a few gigs and came out with their album in collaboration with Times Music but failed due to poor promotion. is struggles began with composing music for television and ad jingles.

Singer Shilpa Rao introduced him to Anurag Kashyap who was in search for a fresh talent to compose music for Dev. D. Kashyap was impressed by Trivedi, so much so that he decided to make Dev D a musical. However, due to production issues, the film took longer than expected to release.

In midst of the chaos, Kashyap recommended his name for Aamir. Dev. D proved to be a turning point for his career, thus bagging him two Filmfares and a Star Screen award. Since then, he has continued working with college band mate and lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya. They went on to make music for movies like Wake Up Sid, Aisha, Udaan, Queen and more.

Happy Birthday Amit Trivedi

The Covid-19 pandemic gave the musician a chance to start his own record label called AT Azaad and entered into the independent music industry. He traveled across diffeent states and made regional folk music. Releasing multiple albums like 'songs of love', 'songs of faith', 'songs of dance' and now 'songs of the soil', Trivedi collaborated with multiple indie artists to add authenticity to them.

'You need to have an understanding of that genre of course, study the beat patterns, the instrumentation that goes with it. I wanted to be authentic to the style and then experiment in and around that to add my touch,' he says, adding, 'I'm mainly there to have fun, whatever be the style.'
