Amitabh Bachchan to Play Ashwatthama in Nag Ashwin`s Kalki 2898 AD; Watch Teaser

The team behind Nag Ashwin's much-anticipated film 'Kalki 2898 AD' revealed Amitabh Bachchan's character of Ashwatthama in a teaser released this Sunday. The teaser was broadcast right before the Bangalore vs. Kolkata cricket match. Earlier in the day, the makers released a poster for the film, announcing the release date and time of this teaser.

As the teaser starts, we see a glimpse of the film's Ashwatthama praying in front of a Shiva Linga. He's covered in rags, with his face hidden behind clothes as well. A young boy is seen asking him questions like 'You cannot die?', 'Are you God?' while Ashwatthama is supposedly injured. To this, Amitabh, playing Ashwatthama, replies, 'Since ancient times, I have awaited the arrival of the Avatar. I am Guru Drona's son. Amitabh Bachchan shared his experience working on the film on this X handle. The actor wrote, 'T 4988 - It's been an experience for me like no other .. One frame during the teaser also shows us a younger version of Ashwatthama. The director shared that the team has used advanced de-aging technology to create Ashwatthama's young avatar based on Amitabh's features.

The upcoming, highly anticipated film is being made on a budget of 600 crore rupees and is also said to be one of the most expensive Indian films ever made. The film stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Disha Patani, and Kamal Haasan in pivotal roles. Kalki is written and directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by Vyjayanthi Movies.Kalki marks the third collaboration between Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone, after the duo gave us hits like Piku and Aarakshan. Amitabh and Deepika will also be seen in the Bollywood remake of the Hollywood film 'The Intern', which stars Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway.
Talking about his film at an event in Gurgaon, director Nag Ashwin shared, 'The film starts with the Mahabharata and ends in 2898 AD. It spans 6,000 years in time. We tried to create worlds, imagining what they would be like while still keeping it Indian and not making it look like Blade Runner.'
