While the movie saw Hrithik's incredible acting as a mentally disabled child, it was Jadoo, the alien, who stole the show. As the movie completes two decades, Rakesh Roshan announces its re-release in theaters.
The filmmaker got emotional about his 2003 release as he opened up about how the movie changed the face of Indian cinema. In a recent interview, Rakesh Roshan traveled down memory lane and recalled the impression Koi, Mil Gaya, Hrithik Roshan, and Jadoo made.
Koi... Mil Gaya to re-release in cinemas
As the Bollywood sci-fi movie completes two decades, the makers have decided to re-release Koi... Mil Gaya in cinemas on August 4. This will be seen happening across 30 cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, etc.Rakesh Roshan, the brain behind the film, gets nostalgic as he talks about the Hrithik Roshan-Pretiy Zinta starrer. "At the heart of our film was a deeply emotional story of a mentally challenged boy, his journey, and his relationship with his mother, friends, and Nisha, the only adult girl who would understand and accept him for who he was. Then there was Jaadoo, the friendly, endearing alien who emoted through his eyes," said the filmmaker.

He further added, "Koi... Mil Gaya was created with minimal VFX, only for the spaceship the rest was groundwork. There was also no DI done for the film."
Koi... Mil Gaya's Jadoo and Hrithik Roshan's character left an impact on millennials and Gen Z in a way that memes about the movie are still trending. The 73-year-old filmmaker takes immense pride in the same.
"I keep seeing Jaadoo being spoken about every time there's a lot of 'Dhoop' during summers, an alleged alien sighting across the world, or a mysterious sonic boom heard from the sky. For any film to pass the test of time, it needs to have a strong emotional bond with its audience," said the director.
Rakesh Roshan further said, "I think Koi.. Mil Gaya connected with the kids, who have now grown up, some having children of their own today. Emotions conveyed through memorable dialogues like 'Mere papa se seekh kar aaya hoon', 'Mujhe kuch dikhai nahi de raha hai maa', 'Haila Jaadoo', etc. are etched in the memory, and I see them being used in situations even today, especially in memes."
Rakesh Roshan on Hrithik Roshan's performance as Rohit
It is today that we realize Koi... Mil Gaya was way ahead of its time. While the entire cast contributed largely to the movie, it was Hrithik Roshan's portrayal of a mentally disabled man that received rave reviews. You can make fun of it or fall in love with his performance, but you cannot ignore the Vikram Vedha actor's craft. This was just three years into the actor's career. "I think Hrithik's performance was one-of-a-kind he not only played a mentally challenged boy, which is something we've seen in cinema world-wide, but to play it with kids and be at the same level was a difficult and challenging task. And the music as well," says the filmmaker.
