Junaid Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, has recently carved his niche in the industry with his debut film, "Maharaj." Stepping away from his father's larger-than-life persona, Junaid has chosen a different path, both in terms of film selection and acting style. But despite forging his own way, he acknowledges the unwavering support and constructive criticism he receives from his family.

Junaid Khan opens up about his biggest supporters

Junaid, who debuted at the age of 31 in "Maharaj," a historical drama based on the 1862 Maharaj Libel Case, expresses his gratitude for his family's encouragement. "I'm blessed because I come from a very supportive family," he says. "We don't really talk about films so much. But I know that Ira (my sister) unconditionally supports me." This unwavering support system extends to his parents as well. "Even Papa (Aamir) will say, 'Look, I feel this, but you should do what you want,'" Junaid reveals, highlighting the respect for his choices within the family.

This support, however, is not without its edge. Junaid admits his family doesn't shy away from offering honest criticism. "They don't shy away from saying it like it is," he says. This balance between encouragement and constructive feedback seems to be a defining feature of Junaid's home environment, allowing him to grow as an actor while carving his own identity.

Junaid's Passion for the Story Drives His Debut Choice

The film "Maharaj" resonated deeply with Junaid due to its historical significance. "He (Karsandas Mulji) was a real person who, in 1862, was talking about those things that even today are happening," Junaid explains, referring to the film's central theme of fighting for social justice. This inspiration from the protagonist's courage and foresight is evident in Junaid's portrayal of the social reformer Karsandas Mulji.

Junaid's journey to "Maharaj" wasn't a straight shot. He reveals, "Before Maharaj happened, I had been receiving scripts. I've been doing plays in Mumbai since 2017." This dedication to honing his craft through theatre prepared him for the film industry. The opportunity for "Maharaj" arose after the makers saw his screen test for another project. "This is my first film because this is the first thing that worked out for everybody," Junaid clarifies, highlighting the element of chance alongside his own talent and preparation.

"I guess as performers, we're all different," he says when asked about comparisons to his father's acting style. This statement underscores Junaid's determination to build his own identity as an actor, separate from his family name.

Junaid Khan's journey is a testament to the importance of family support coupled with the drive to forge one's own path.
