Kangana Ranaut’s Upcoming Biopic ‘Emergency’ Postponed Amid Lok Sabha Elections

Earlier this year, Queen actress Kangana Ranaut announced her new project, 'Emergency'. She announced the new biopic based on Indira Gandhi, focusing on the national emergency declared during her tenure. The film was initially set to release on June 14 however, due to the actress's time and energy currently taken by the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections, the makers of the film have announced that the film's release is postponed for now.

Kangana Ranaut's Emergency release date postponed

Taking to their Instagram handle, Manikarnika Films, the makers behind Emergency, announced that Kangana's film is postponed and that another date will be announced shortly. The filmmakers wrote, 'Our hearts are filled with love filled with love pouring in for our queen, Kangana Ranaut. As she prioritises her duty to the nation and her commitment to serve the country, the release date of our much-awaited film 'Emergency' has been postponed. We promise to update you soon with a new release date. Thank you for your continued support.'



Kangana Ranaut is currently contesting the Lok Sabha elections on the Bharatiya Janata Party ticket. She is appearing on behalf of her home town constituency of Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. The Tanu Weds Manu actress filed her nomination for the Lok Sabha elections this Tuesday. After filing her nomination, the actress gave a statement saying, 'Today I have filed a nomination from the Mandi LS seat. It is a matter of pride for me to have the opportunity to contest from Mandi. I have been successful in Bollywood, and I am hopeful that I will get success in the field of politics as well.'

More about Emergency

Emergency is both written and directed by Kangana Ranaut. She will also play the lead role of Indira Gandhi in the biopic. In addition, the film is also being produced under the banner of Manikarnika Films, which is owned by Kangana Ranaut.


Apart from Kangana, the film stars Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik. The film will showcase the life, political career, and death of India's late Prime Minister, whose tenure was wrought with several controversies. One of the most impactful decisions taken by Indira Gandhi remains the emergency one, which impacted millions of lives in India.
