Met Set Go: It Took 163 Artisans, 1965 Man Hours To Design Alia Bhatt`s Met Gala Saree

The internet has been quaking and shaking, all thanks to Alia Bhatt, who slayed and swayed at the Met Gala 2024. The Bollywood diva raised the temperature of the red carpet as she wore a custom Sabyasachi saree. It was designed keeping this year's Met Gala theme in mind: Sleeping Beauty.

For the uninitiated, this is the second time the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani actress attended the biggest fashion event in the world. Alia Bhatt made her Met Gala debut in 2023 when she wore an exquisite Prabal Gurung white gown as a tribute to the iconic designer Karl Lagarfeld.

This year was no ordinary one, as she decided to raise the bar higher than ever. In a social media post, Alia elaborated on the shocking process of making her stunning saree.

Decoding Alia Bhatt's Met Gala 2024 look

It was a blooming affair for the actress, as she opted for a pastel Sabyasachi saree adorned with intricate floral motifs and jewels, paired with perfectly complementary headgear.

Explanating the theme of the event, Alia wrote a rather elaborate post in which she mentioned the process that went into creating her exquisite ensemble. The theme of the Met Gala 2024 was Garden of Time, where the celebs were challenged to reawaken fashion.

Sharing a series of her pictures from the red carpet, Alia Bhatt wrote, "It was a call to the Garden of Timemdashan ode to art and eternity. Timelessness is endless, and we acknowledge that things crafted with time and care can last forever. In our journey for an Indian interpretation of this universal theme, the outfit took on a life of its own."

Inspiration behind Alia Bhatt's Met Gala look

Further mentioning how she and the ace designer brainstormed about her look, the actress recalled drawing fashion inspiration from past Indian craftsmanship and culture.

"We looked to the past as a guide for the future, drawing inspiration from the timeless sophistication of Indian nobility. We focused on intricate craftsmanship, incorporating hand embroidery and precious stones, along with elegant beadwork and fringes, distinctive of the 1920s fringe style. Our color palette pays homage to nature's beauty, echoing the earth, sky, and sea," her caption further read.

She even mentioned the littlest of the details, such as hair, makeup, and the inspiration behind making her whole dreamy look a reality.


Alia further wrote, "An elevated coiffure embellished with intricately woven braids and soft frecklesmdasha homage to time's gentle caress." However, creating the same wasn't a cakewalk.

Recalling how she created her Met Gala 2024 look, the Brahmastra actress recalled it being equal parts fun and stressful.

"It has taken a collective effort of 163 dedicated individuals, including master craftspeople, embroiderers, artists, and dyers, investing a total of 1,965 hours to create this ethereal saree. As I wear this outfit, I feel incredibly grateful to embody this exquisite creation, a testament to boundless love and painstaking effort," she added.

Her concluding note was a thank-you message to her entire team, who helped her ace the look. It included stylists Anaita Shroff Adajania and Lakshmi Lehr, makeup artist Puneet Saini, hai artist Amit Thakur, and Dolly Jain, who helped the diva drape the saree.

"Teamwork makes the dream work. #MetGala2024 #GardenOfTime," Alia Bhatt concluded.
