NTR Rama Rao Birth Anniversary: PM Modi Pays Tribute To Telugu Cinema Icon

With regional cinema having a legendary lineage of talents, many of today's actors come from a family that created cinematic magic and brought about a major transformation in the world of entertainment. One of them was the iconic Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR). The legendary actor-politician happens to be Jr. NTR's grandfather.

May 28 marks his 101st birth anniversary. On the auspicious occasion, the RRR actor was spotted at Hyderabad's NTR ghat, where he paid tribute to his late grandfather and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

While many stars expressed their admiration for the late Telugu superstar, it was PM Narendra Modi's tweet that caught our attention. In a heartfelt tribute, he referred to Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao as a 'visionary leader.'

Who was Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR)?

Today marks NTR's 101st birth anniversary. For the uninitiated, he brought a transitional shift to the Telugu film industry with his incredible craft. He is considered one of the most influential actors and filmmakers in Indian cinema.

Born into a farmer's family, N. T. Rama Rao was married to Nandamuri Basavatarakam. However, she died of cancer in 1985. The actor then married Lakshmi Parvathi in 1993.

Throughout his four-decade-long career in the entertainment industry, NTR has done over 300 films. He made his debut with the 1949 release Mana Desam and landed his first lead role in Palletoori Pilla, 1950.

It was the Telugu fantasy film Pathala Bhairav that made him a household name. Rama Rao even went on to serve as Andhra Pradesh's Chief Minister for seven years over three terms.

He passed away after suffering a brutal cardiac arrest in January 1996 at his residence in Hyderabad.

Narendra Modi's tribute to the late Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR)

On his 101st birth anniversary, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and paid his heartfelt tribute to the late legendary actor-politician.

Penning down a tweet, Modi wrote, 'Remembering the legendary NTR on his birth anniversary. He was a remarkable icon of Telugu cinema and a visionary leader."

'His contributions to film and politics continue to inspire generations. From his unforgettable roles on screen to his transformative leadership, he is fondly remembered. We will keep working to fulfill his vision for our society," he concluded.

Along with Modi, many other leaders and patrons from the film industry also paid homage to and spoke highly of N T Rama Rao.
