Rekha Birthday: When Rekha Saw Jaya Bachchan Cry

It is Rekha's birthday today, and the actor turns 69 today. Defying her age, Rekha looks just as young and continues to baffle everyone with her appearances in public. Along with that, Rekha has always been in the limelight, ever since her early days in the film industry. Every year, her birthday is a moment of huge interest for her fans.

Her romantic relationship with veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan has been most talked about, and Rekha has even admitted in her interviews that she was in love with him. This irked Jaya Bachchan and reportedly led to some trouble for Rekha.

In 1978, Rekha did an interview with Stardust where she spoke about a specific incident involving Jaya Bachchan. During the screening of her film with Amitabh, Muqaddar ka Sikandar, she saw Jaya cry as some intimate sequences involving Rekha and him came on screen.

"Jaya was sitting in the front row, and he (Amitabh Bachchan) and his parents were in the row behind her. They couldn't see her as clearly as I could. And during our love scenes, I could see tears pouring down her face," she said. She was sitting in the projection room and witnessing the reactions of everyone. The entire Bachchan family had come to watch the film.

Right after the film, it was made clear to her by some producers that Amitabh would no longer work with her. There were rising rumors of the alleged love affair between Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha, which had irked Jaya Bachchan. This further caused a block between Rekha and Jaya, who were friends previously.

Rekha's first film with Amitabh Bachchan was the 1976 film Do Anjaane, in which she played his wife. After this, they would go on to do multiple films together, much to the appreciation of their fans, who loved their on-screen chemistry. In 1981, the three of them starred in a love triangle drama directed by Yash Chopra. In the film, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya are married, while Rekha is his ex-lover. The film spurred some discussions as it reportedly had parallels with real life.

Recently, Rekha has not been doing many films. Her last proper film was the 2014-starrer Super Nani, which was directed by Indra Kumar. After that, while she has not appeared in films, she is a regular at many film events and reality television shows, gracing any occasion with her presence.
