Veer Zaara Turns 20: Divya Dutta Thinks There Should Never Be A Sequel Made

One of the most iconic romantic movies, Veer Zaara, has made every Bollywood lover a hopeless romantic. Starring Preity Zinta, Shah Rukh Khan, and Rani Mukerji in leading roles, the film became a massive blockbuster in 2004. Made under the Yash Raj Films banner, Veer Zaara completes 20 years of its release today.

Along with the three superstars, Divya Dutta was also a prominent part of the film. She played the supporting role of Shabina, aka Shabbo. Her performance was highly lauded. She states that is one of the films that gave her global recognition.

While she confesses being apprehensive about taking the supporting role, Divya looks back and says that 'in the most unassuming ways I was launched by Yash Chopra," especially when offers were flooding her way after seeing her work in the film.


Divya Dutta on Veer Zaara sequel

As the film completes 20 years of its release, the actress thinks the on-screen magic of Veer Zaara shouldn't be attempted to be remade or have a sequel of any sort. Every millennial and Bollywood romance lover will agree to her point.

'I thinkVeer Zaarashould just beVeer Zaara. I don't know what the makers think, but I feel there shouldn't be a sequel. It should just be one stand alone. I would love to remember Veer Zaara, as just that, directed by Yash Chopra and written by Aditya Chopra,' sais Dutta.

The film, which starred Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta, was recently re-released in theatres. However, the Sharmajee Ki Beti actress wasn't in town to watch it but was aware of the positive response it garnered from the fans and moviegoers.

Sharing her thoughts about the 2004 release, Divya Dutta said, 'Veer Zaara is a cult film. Wherever I go in the world for my shoots, motivational talks, or events. I definitely hear about Veer Zaara, and I think it is a film that, across all generations, will be a very beautiful and popular film."

"A love story that is so deep and beautiful that it will definitely find a place in everyone's hearts. Gen Z has seen Veer Zaara. Wherever I go and ask, 'Hey, which of my movies have you seen?'a lot of people are like, 'Veer Zaara,'"she further added.


Divya Dutta shares fond memories with Yash Chopra

In an old interview, the actress even shared some fond memories with the late director, Yash Chopra. She recalled bonding with him on Punjabi food and schedules on shoot.

Recalling the good old days, Dutta said, 'Yash Ji never made you feel that he was directing you. He is effortless and easy, and in just his conversations, he will just seep in what he wanted to convey."

She continued, "He and I were total hardcore Punjabis and would bond over food and schedules on shoot. Even when I finishedVeer Zaara, I continued these sessions of meeting him. They have seen so much life."

Veer Zaara was released on November 12, 2004, and collected over 97 crores worldwide.
