Sunny Kaushal Opens Up On Generational Conditioning On International Men`s Day
International Men`s Day has been trending on Google search as we celebrate the same on November 19. This global observance focuses on highlighting positive contributions by men to society, addressing issues that impact men`s well-being, and promoting gender equality.
Sunny Kaushal, a leading Bollywood actor, has no definition of manhood, as he strongly believes the concept is evolving as per "the environment you get in the house, the friends that you have, and the kind of work that you do.”
Being in the film industry has only made him`more liberal` in terms of masculinity. On the occasion of Men`s Day, Sunny talks about how generational conditioning has impacted men`s mental health and how they`ve also been the victims of patriarchy.
“I`ve gone through that process of deconstructing this narrative in my head and understanding the conditioning with which society comes from. It’s not anyone’s fault. When men are taught not to cry, it is telling them to suppress deeper emotions to prepare them to face the world later in life.," he said.

Kaushal further added, "That`s what I also grew up with, but I learnt how to use it well as it also teaches you to become more resilient.”
However, suppressing emotions and bottling them down affected men`s mental health to a great extent, and Sunny believes it is high time to make it more open, allowing men to be more vulnerable.

“Generational trauma kitna nikal ke aa raha hai. Now when guys talk, you realise that it`s been a long time coming. It just doesn`t affect you; it affects your generation and the next. So, it`s better to take care of it now,” the actor said.
Sunny Kaushal further added, “It forces you to think whether women are the only victims of patriarchy. It’s men as well. I`m not playing the victim card or pushing the narratives towards men. It’s a small percentage of men, but it is nonetheless. It is finally time, and stigmas against men’s mental health are being lifted and accepted. Men are being encouraged to be more vulnerable, and it`s beautiful.”
It serves as an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the accomplishments and roles of men and boys, particularly in areas like family, marriages, communities, and childcare.
On Men`s Day, it is also essential to address men`s mental health and physical well-being by spreading awareness on conditions like prostate cancer, UTIs, and kidney stones.
