Why was Swara Bhasker criticized for meeting Maulana Nomani?
Swara Bhasker, one of the most politically vocal actresses who is also controversy`s favourite child, is back headlining Bollywood trends, but this time, not for a good reason. She has been on the troll radar ever since she married politician Fahad Ahmed.
The Bollywood actress and her politician husband faced severe backlash on social media after they met Maulana Sajjad Nomani, a controversial Islamic figure known for his opposing views on women`s education and their right to lead a normal life.
Swara Bhasker`s meeting with Maulana Nomani, along with her husband and NCP candidate Fahad Ahmed, has sparked some serious debate and backlash from netizens, calling her hypocrite and several other names.
However, the little union has not been well received by the netizens and Swara`s followers, many of whom took to social media and questioned her commitment to women`s rights.

Maulana Sajjad Nomani is notoriously known for his controversial views on opposing women from receiving education. His statements have often called women`s education as `haram` for parents to send their daughters to school or college unsupervised.
This has caused several fans and followers to accuse Swara Bhasker of her hypocrisy.
One user pointed out her double standards and wrote, “Ultra feminist Swara Bhasker received blessings by Deobandi Pro-Taliban fundamentalist Maulana Sajjad Nomani, who often preached parents to avoid sending daughters to educational institutions to prevent them turning ‘kafir’.”
“He openly speaks against interfaith (Muslim girl to Hindu boy) marriages. Do @ReallySwara, who embraced interfaith relationships, endorse his views? She has to. The cult doesn`t provide many choices,” the user added.
Another tweet read, “Odd days: smash Brahminical patriarchy. Even days—Genuflect in front of a Mullah,” highlighting what they saw as a flip-flop in Swara’s values."
Some even mocked her for her appearance, with one writing, “Makeup is haram in Islam. Swara Bhasker is doing it right.”
Swara Bhasker and Fahad Ahmed tied the knot in February 2023 under the Special Marriages Act. Later that year, they welcomed their first child, a daughter whom they named Raabiyaa.
