Swara Bhasker Extends Support to Sonakshi Sinha Amidst Trolling for Interfaith Marriage
Sonakshi Sinha, the popular Bollywood actress, is all set to tie the knot with her beau, Zaheer Iqbal. While fans are showering the couple with love and good wishes, a section of social media, unfortunately, has fixated on their religious backgrounds. Actress Swara Bhasker, who herself faced similar online harassment for her interfaith marriage, has come out in strong support of the couple.
Bhasker further highlighted the dangers interfaith couples face, even in real life. "An interfaith couple can actually get beaten up in certain cities on Valentine’s Day,” she said.

Swara emphasised that the decision to get married and the nature of the ceremony are entirely personal choices. "We’re talking about two consenting adults here," she asserted. "What they do in their private lives... it`s up to them. It’s nobody’s business if they’re living together, getting married in court, having a nikaah, or having an Arya Samaj wedding. It’s between the man and the woman and their families. It’s Sonakshi’s life; she’s chosen her partner. Her partner has chosen her. Now it’s between them and their families. I find this a very time-waste debate." She believes the constant scrutiny and unsolicited opinions are a waste of time.
Swara warns Sonakshi and Zaheer that the online negativity might not stop at their wedding. "Wait and watch; when they have a child, there will be a separate debate around the child’s name," she predicts. She cites examples of similar controversies faced by Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan`s children, and even her own daughter Raabiya. “We’ve seen it happen with Kareena and Saif’s kids and with my kid. It’s completely idiotic, but this isn’t going to end anytime soon,” she concluded.
Swara concludes by calling this a persistent issue: "It’s completely idiotic, but this isn’t going to end anytime soon."
Here`s hoping the couple can tune out the negativity and focus on celebrating their love with their loved ones.
Swara Bhasker Speaks Out Against Trolling and the "Love Jihad" Myth
Swara Bhasker understands the trolling Sonakshi and Zaheer are facing all too well. Having married Fahad Ahmad, a Samajwadi Party member and a social activist, in February 2023, she was subjected to similar negativity online. She addressed this issue head-on, stating, "One of the biggest myths of modern India is ‘love jihad’, where a Hindu girl marries a Muslim man. This applies to me as well."Bhasker further highlighted the dangers interfaith couples face, even in real life. "An interfaith couple can actually get beaten up in certain cities on Valentine’s Day,” she said.
