Chhaava and Pushpa 2 Clash
Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films has announced a change in the release date of their highly anticipated historical drama Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal. Initially set for release on December 6, 2024, the film has now been postponed to February 14, 2025, to avoid a box-office clash with the Telugu blockbuster Pushpa 2: The Rule, starring Allu Arjun, which will hit theatres on December 5, 2024.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed the news, tweeting: “VICKY KAUSHAL - RASHMIKA - AKSHAYE KHANNA: `CHHAAVA` NEW RELEASE DATE ANNOUNCEMENT... #Chhaava is now set for a theatrical release on 14 Feb 2025... The release date holds special significance since it coincides with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti on 19 Feb 2025.”

Rashmika Mandanna stars as Chhatrapati Maharani Yesubai, while Akshaye Khanna portrays the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The film’s scale is grand, with music by A.R. Rahman and visuals helmed by cinematographer Saurabh Goswami.
The teaser, released in August, offered a glimpse of the epic scale and historical depth, raising anticipation among audiences.
By postponing Chhaava, Maddock Films has positioned the film for both commercial and cultural resonance. With its new release date close to Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, Chhaava is set to capture both hearts and history at the box office.

Why the Change?
The decision to shift Chhaava’s release date is a strategic one. With Pushpa 2: The Rule generating massive hype across India, a box-office battle between the two films could have impacted Chhaava’s commercial success. The pan-India appeal of Pushpa 2 has been evident since the first film’s massive success, making it a formidable competitor. In an official statement, the makers of Chhaava explained, “The release date holds special significance since it coincides with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti on February 19, 2025.” The new release date not only avoids competition but also aligns with the legacy of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the film’s protagonist.
