Karan Johar turns 50 and hes nothing less than fabulous. Putting aside all the trolls and hate comments, were here to celebrate Karan Johar - the filmmaker, the quintessential fashion critique, and a Bollywood rebel.
Karan Johar - The Filmmaker
Yes, we can unanimously agree that he has made some questionable movies where emotions overpowered logic, but c'mon, you cannot deny they aren't your guilty pleasure. From Kuch Kuch Hota Hain, his directorial debut, to JugJug Jeeyo, his upcoming release - Karan's come a far way. As a filmmaker, KJo is known to play with emotions, fashion, unique characters, and everything in between.
Be it Poo in K3G, Shanaya in SOTY, Alizeh from ADHM, or Naina from YJHD - he has never conformed himself to experiment with their style and uniqueness. The way he has eye for detailing, one can clearly see his passion for films. With Lust Stories, his short film stood out the most, giving a message that women need more than a touch and twirl to be satisfied. His path-breaking movie was Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham - a family drama that we still enjoy with a cringe on our foreheads.
Till date, Karan's production house Dharma Productions has produced over 54 films. Despite the nepotism debate, you cannot deny that he still falls in the 'top filmmakers of bollywood' category.

Karan Johar - The Quintessential Fashion Critique
If we were to add a diva in the fashionistas, Karan would definitely make it to the list. Knowing his fashion sense and his judgy-eye for other's dressing sense, he'll be a perfect host for 'India's Got Fashion,' a hypothetical yet highly probable show.
Known for his blingy shows, gaudy jackets, classy tuxedoes, jazzy accessories, and boogie attitude, Karan is definitely an avid fashion lover. His brands speak louder than words. On his famous talk show Koffee With Karan, he's often seen sitting down the couch with celebs like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, or Sonam Kapoor, talking about their peers' fashion sense. Some judgy, some devilish, while some brutally honest - Karan's known to invite controversy.
If you're looking for a rockstar, disco-ball kinda vibe, barge into KJo's wardrobe and you'll find just the right thing.

Karan Johar - The Bollywood Rebel
Being an oversized kid and overcoming your insecurities is not everyone's cup of tea. The filmmaker was not as confident in his skin as he looks today. Especially with all the trolls and negative comments, it becomes hard to survive this cut-throat brutal industry. With time, Johar overcame his fears, one failure at a time. He started his Bollywood journey with acting and grabbed his first role in the iconi DDLJ as Shah Rukh Khan's friend. But clearly, acting was neither his calling, nor his talent. He gave another shot at it in the movie Bombay Velvet. Along with the movie, he as an actor did not work well.
Picking up filmmaking as his career, he made his directorial debut with Kuch Kuch Hota Hain, a massive hit even today. Along with giving some hit films, Karan has a list of flops attached to his name too. Movies like Kalank, Brothers, Baar Baar Dekho were a big disaster. Having said that, he's had some amazing movies to his name too. Films such as My Name Is Khan, 2 States, Wake Up Sid, and more were either helmed or produced by him.
Adopting two lovely kids through surrogacy would be something that gained him lot of empathy and people are just crazy over his two lovely munchkins.
Despite having the 'Mafia King' or 'King Of Nepotism' tag attached to him, he still remains one of the rebellious Bollywood celebrity who doesn't give a damn of what papers print about him.
We wish the maestro of love stories - Karan Johar a very happy 50th birthday! May your next 50 be as fabulous as this one.
